SHRIMAD RAJCHANDRA HOSPITAL

Introduction

Located in the Valsad District, in South Gujarat, India, the sub-districts of Dharampur and Kaprada are Inhabited by a large population of rural and tribal people, who are amongst the most underprivileged in Gujarat. With limited job opportunities (restricted mainly to farm labour) and monthly family income of an average 3 to 5 dollars per day, an overwhelming majority of the people live Below the Poverty Line (BPL). Consequently, they have little food to eat and suffer from severe malnutrition. This abject poverty, coupled with the high level of illiteracy that is rife in these areas, make these people highly vulnerable to different illnesses and diseases. And to make matters worse, when they are forced to borrow money from a village money lender, for medical treatment or for other reasons, they do so at crippling interest rates ranging up to 50% per year.

To reduce the suffering, misery and pain of these underprivileged people, to treat them with love and compassion and to provide them with medical care of the highest possible quality, Shrimad Rajchandra Hospital (SRH) was established in July 2004, in the very heart of Dharampur town.

For this, the Gujarat Government is indebted to them. For improving the Human Development Index of the State, by providing these types of healthcare services to people from the remotest of areas, I am thankful to Shrimad Rajchandra Hospital.”
